The purpose of our tournament goes beyond the friendly competition on the bowling greens; it is a chance for us to join hands in support of a local charity or worthy cause. This year, our focus was on a young girl from Alexandra.
Though not a charity, when we heard about Isabel, the committee decided this was a most worthy cause. Isabel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in April 2023, a few weeks after her second birthday. Since then, she has had several procedures, scans, blood transfusions and 5 rounds of intensive chemo. She has recently begun the maintenance phase of her chemo, which will last just shy of 18 months and is less intense, allowing her to begin getting back to normal.
The tournament was an unbelievable success, with 38 teams entering. Clyde Bowling Club offered the use of their greens to help accommodate all the teams. The rule book was thrown away as the tournament allowed Full, Social and even non-members to play. Players from local companies entering & having a lot of fun on the day.
Roxburgh Bowling Club helped by supplying 14 sets of bowls for non-bowlers to add to those from ADC Bowls. An amazing raffle was conducted with over 60 prizes, followed by an auction. In total, the amount raised was over $17,000. Well done and thanks to everyone concerned, members, volunteers, and local businesses.
Everyone was a winner, but the actual tournament winners were Robbie Robinson, Ross Hamill and Graeme Tiplady 3 top guys from Cromwell Bowling Club.
